Waria is a singer, songwriter, performer and multi-instrumentalist whose indie/pop and rnb sound can be attributed to the eclectic range of music she heard growing up. Citing Fleetwood Mac, Missy Higgins, Sara Bareilles, Ashanti, Jessie J, Jojo, Kehlani, Sinead Hartnett, Mabel as major influences, Waria has the ability to pull you in with her warm and inviting presence but keep you engaged with her raw yet sincere performances. Born into a creative household, her mother a visual artist, her father a musician and both being dancers, it was almost innate that she would also be involved in the arts. She believes having exposure to all of her parent’s creative endeavours from a such a young age decided her fate long before she had a choice. “I have been surrounded by music or the arts my whole life, I have never thought of being anything but a performer. There are not enough words to describe the adoration and connection that I have with music” – Waria. Waria is both Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and identifies as a descendant of the Woppaburra tribe of Great Keppel Island and Argun Tribe of Badu Island (Western side of the Torres Strait Islands). Waria has experience performing on a variety of events across Queensland and New South Wales such as the G20 World Leaders Summit Opening, Tamworth Country Music Festival, Hats Off To Country: DAG Sheepstation Songwriters Retreat and Showcase, The Gathering Indigenous Showcase, Wandiyali Indigenous Surf Contest, Yugambeh Festival, CMC Rocks ‘Country Comes to the City Competition’ and the 2015 Indigenous Sports Awards. She has also featured in stage productions at Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC). Most recently she did a week of performances at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games including the MainStage at Surfers Paradise and the finale song at the official closing ceremony. Waria hopes to continue performing, singing, writing, developing her artistry and release some music in the coming years.
