Jacob Ridgeway

Jacob Ridgeway is a singer/songwriter/performer based in Newcastle, NSW and is of First Nations (Worimi and Kamilaroi) descent. Jacob’ style is a contemporary-pop fusion of raspy soulful vocals (tenor) with country inspired lyricism. The musical inspirations Jacob draw from are vast which include such as Troy Cassar-Daley, Justin Timberlake, Claude Kelly and Hillary Lindsay amongst others. Jacob’s breakout performance came in 2014 when he was selected to sing “My Island Home” with the backing of the QPAC Choir and William Barton for the climax of the G20 opening. Jacob has shown versatility and a steady rise as a performing artist. He has been fortunate enough to perform, open for or collaborate with such artists as; James Morrison, Jessica Mauboy, Stan Walker, Dami Im, Troy Cassar-Daley in various platforms. He has performed in such venues as: QLD Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), Brisbane/Gold Coast Convention Centre, Judith Wright Centre, Brisbane Powerhouse, Suncorp and McDonald Jones Stadium. Festivals and shows include: QLD Music Festival, Jazz on the Green, X-Factor 2015, Tamworth CMF, 2016/17/18 NRL All Stars games and the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. “…I have always grown up surrounded by Music. Music in general is my passion, my love and my life. Music gives a definition to who we are. I love being able to share that and a piece of who I am with others.” Jacob is a 2016 graduate of the National Aboriginal Centre of Performing Arts in Brisbane (ACPA) and the CMAA Academy of Country Music in Tamworth. Jacob is a student of the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music where he is completing his Bachelor of Music. He was awarded the prestigious Norman Bushman Scholarship for Voice through the University of Newcastle. Jacob recently placed 3rd in the University of Newcastle Band Competition. Jacob is currently working towards releasing music in Spring 2018.
