Handkerchief Thief

Handkerchief Thief is the moniker of Wollongong-based singer/songwriter Sam McLaren. Following in the footsteps of musical heroes Bon Iver, Daughter and Alt-J, Handkerchief Thief’s music fits somewhere under the wide eaves of indie-folk – weaving layers of ethereal vocals and instrumentation to evoke strong emotional responses in listeners. Handkerchief Thief's debut EP 'Hunting For Hummingbirds' was released in April 2018. Recorded at Melbourne's charming Aviary Studios (Gretta Ray, Cactus Channel) by Fraser Montgomery and Nick Edin, Hunting For Hummingbirds is an eclectic range of tracks typified by ambient guitars, lush vocal arrangements and epic build ups. The EP features singles 'Salted Skin' and 'Hanging On', which have garnered tens of thousands of online streams and acclaim from music blogs around the world. “Oh, your vocals at times make my body shiver. This is very lovely!” - Claire Mooney (Triple J) “Salted Skin is without a doubt one of the best musical debuts I’ve heard, I am really debating if it is not the best.” – Wolf in a Suit (US music blog)
