Curious Fingers

Curious Fingers

A high flying band of improvisers from Newcastle, NSW. Martin's quirky compositions lead the group into a variety of bold directions and funky grooves. Martin Rotolo is a contemporary guitarist whose music lives in the spirit of the moment and is informed by the rich history of improvised music from Australia and abroad. The child of two musical parents, he brings together the detail and richness of his mother’s classical piano, and the raw energy and spirit of his father’s rock and folk songs. In 2013, Martin completed a Bachelor of Music Performance at VCA where he undertook studies from many influential Melbourne musicians including, Marc Hannaford, Scott Tinkler, James Sherlock, Geoff Hughes, Glenn Cannon and Ren Walters. Comfortable in a wide variety of contexts, Martin performs regularly with his own ensemble, “Curious Fingers”, has toured throughout regional Australia with folk/pop band “Anna Smyrk and the Appetites”, and in 2012 took part in the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, playing with Indigenous legend Kutcha Edwards. His group ‘Map Trio’, was a winner of the Riverside Live ‘Talking Music’ competition, curated by Bassist Chris Hale.
